Obsolete MRE Shelf-Life Chart

The Shelf Life and Storage Chart for MREs below appears on most MRE web retailers and MRE aficionados on the internet.  It has created confusion regarding MRE shelf-life.  Created in 1980 by the U. S. Army Natick Laboratory, the storage chart was created for the first generation of MREs, and is now obsolete.  Therefore, it should not be considered as a reliable gauge for estimated shelf-life of Meals, Ready to Eat rations.

On the current Natick website, The U.S. Army Soldier System Center - Natick states, “The MRE's shelf life is three years at 80 degrees F and six months at 100 degrees F.“

For up-to-date information on the shelf life and nutrition facts in Meals, Ready to Eat and HeaterMeals Self-Heating Meals, visit our  HeaterMeals or MREs page.
